There are approximately 19 unincorporated communities within the greater Las Vegas area.

These unincorporated municipalities contain a broad mixture of residential, commercial and retail areas that mirror those typically found in a major metropolitan area in the United States. These communities include:

• Whitney, which is 14 miles southeast of Las Vegas and 13 miles from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas
• Winchester, only eight miles from Las Vegas proper and 13 miles from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and 10 miles from the Community College of Southern Nevada
• Sunrise Manor, located about 11 miles southeast of Las Vegas.
