Healthcare Facilities and Hospitals in Las Vegas Region
In calendar 2005/2006 alone approximately 21 healthcare facilities in the Las Vegas area either underwent an expansion or have plans to expand some time in the near future. At least four of these facilities have added or plan to add standalone towers to their existing facilities in the near future. Las Vegas has a total of 14 acute care hospitals, 4 hospices and several rehabilitation and specialty hospitals, satellite locations and quick care facilities – with over 2,000 hospital beds in all.
Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center
Among the 11 major hospitals serving the greater Las Vegas area is the Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center. With about 700 beds and 1,400 physicians, it maintains a 145-bed children's hospital along with centers for renal transplants, sleep disorders, and epilepsy.
It is also affiliated with the University of Nevada School of Medicine; the University Medical Center (UMC) was named in 2004 among the top 50 hospitals by U.S. News & World Report for neurosurgery and neurology along with being the state's sole hospital on the annual "America's Best Hospitals" list.
Boulder City Hospital
In April 2004, the 67-bed Boulder City Hospital celebrated 50 years of serving the citizens of Boulder City. The hospital provides ancillary, cardio/pulmonary, dietetic, emergency, pharmaceutical, radiology, surgical and other services. It also provides a home health agency.
Desert Springs Hospital
Desert Springs Hospital Medical Center, a 346-bed acute care facility located in southeast Las Vegas, has been providing quality healthcare to the residents of Southern Nevada since 1971. The hospital provides 24-hour emergency services, including a fast-track area in the emergency room to treat less acute patients. For years, the hospital has been referred to as the “Heart Hospital” by longtime residents due to its solid reputation as a leader in specialized cardiac care.
The hospital has three full-service catheterization laboratories, a 107,000-square-foot medical office building and an outpatient surgery facility. Desert Springs is home to the Diabetes Treatment Center – the only American Diabetes Association-accredited diabetes program in Southern Nevada.
Desert Springs is a member of the Valley Health System and has a campus that encompasses more than 451,000 square feet. Desert Springs’ growing staff consists of more than 1,100 physicians representing eight clinical departments. Medical specialties include allergy, cardiology, dermatology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, gynecology, hematology, infectious disease, internal medicine and rheumatology. Surgical specialties include neurosurgery, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, plastic surgery, podiatry, proctology, thoracic and urology.
Flamingo Surgery Center
Flamingo Surgery Center is a multi-specialty ambulatory surgery center that offers patients a convenient, comfortable and less-costly alternative to the hospital. A member facility of HCA, the nation’s leading provider of healthcare services, this center is committed to delivering high-quality care and fostering strong relationships with area surgeons.
The center is accredited by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care, Inc. This modern, family-oriented outpatient surgery center was established in 1996. It allows patients to submit their clinical history online and provides a full range of services.
Specialty services include gastroenterology, gynecology, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, ear, nose and throat, pain management, physical medicine, podiatry, colorectal surgery, general surgery, maxillofacial surgery, oral surgery, orthopedic surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery, vascular surgery and urology.
Health South – Hospital at Tenaya
This rehabilitation hospital offers a continuum of services, including acute medical care, inpatient rehabilitation, day hospital, outpatient rehabilitation, home care, outpatient surgery, diagnostic imaging and occupational medicine.
Health South offers more than 30 medical specialties and joint venture partnerships with local healthcare systems. Other areas of specialty include spinal cord injury, pain management, orthopedics, neurology, general rehabilitation, stroke and cardiac treatment, brain injury, arthritis and amputee care.
Health South – Rehabilitation Hospital of Las Vegas
A comprehensive, 79-bed medical rehabilitation hospital, this facility has been serving patients in Southern Nevada and Southern California for more than 10 years. The mission of the hospital is to guide patients with physically disabling conditions along an individualized treatment pathway, so they can reach the highest level of physical, social and emotional well being.
Las Vegas Healthcare and Rehabilitation Hospital
Las Vegas Healthcare and Rehabilitation Hospital accommodates 79 residents and has been serving the Las Vegas community for approximately 40 years. Located in close proximity to local hospitals and surrounded by medical complexes, the center offers both short-term rehabilitation and long-term care. The center provides rehabilitation services, nutritional counseling and other services, including a variety of recreational events designed to encourage socialization and provide exercise.
Las Vegas Surgery Center
Las Vegas Surgery Center is a freestanding, multi-specialty ambulatory surgery center where surgeons perform a broad range of outpatient surgical procedures. Founded in 1983, the center offers a safe, convenient alternative to inpatient hospitalization. The center is part of the Sunrise Healthcare System and is affiliated with Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center and Mountain View Hospital.
MountainView Hospital is a state-of-the-art, full service medical facility in the heart of the northwest Las Vegas valley that opened in 1996. MountainView Hospital has earned the highest patient satisfaction of any hospital in Las Vegas, according to a survey by the Business Research Center of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. MountainView Hospital is a 199-bed hospital that is easily accessible off U.S. 95 and Cheyenne.
The 280,000 square-foot facility has a combination of private, semi-private and isolation beds. In addition to 930 employees, MountainView has more than 1,100 physicians on staff, representing 36 medical specialties. The range of services includes comprehensive surgical and emergency care hospitals, cardiovascular services and women’s services including “birthday suites” and a new level II nursery.
Additionally, MountainView Hospital offers an extensive, advanced range of outpatient and diagnostic services. For patients and families, this means an unparalleled depth and breadth of medical expertise close to home.
North Vista Hospital
North Vista Hospital has served the North Las Vegas community since 1959. When the doors first opened, the hospital had 33 beds, and the population of North Las Vegas was 18,000. Today, North Las Vegas is one of the fastest growing cities in the country, and North Vista Hospital has grown to 168 licensed beds. The hospital’s medical staff consists of more than 800 specialists and primary care physicians dedicated to providing quality, compassionate healthcare.
Through the addition of new services and advanced medical technology, North Vista Hospital continues to expand as the community around the hospital grows. The hospital is part of IASIS Healthcare Corp., which recently launched a $13 million expansion and rejuvenation project for the hospital.
Sahara Surgery Center
Sahara Surgery Center is a multi-specialty surgical facility which has served the Las Vegas Valley since 1994. The center provides quality care in a warm, personalized setting for those patients whose surgical needs do not require an overnight hospital stay.
The center is part of the Sunrise Healthcare System and is affiliated with Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center and Mountain View Hospital.
Southern Hills Hospital
Southern Hills Hospital opened its doors to the community on March 1, 2004, and is the newest hospital in the greateer Las Vegas area. The hospital has 701 physicians and 500 staff members. The hospital is easily accessible on Fort Apache, one block west of Sunset / I-215 exit. The hospital’s 130 beds include 58 medical/surgical beds, 22 intensive care unit beds, 25 ICU step-down beds and 25 maternal services beds. Hospital services include emergency care, maternity, level II nursery, cardiology, internal medicine, general surgery, OB/GYN, physical medicine and rehabilitation, outpatient services, pharmacy and community education programming.
Spring Valley Hospital Medical Center
Open since 2003, this four-story, 280,000-square-foot hospital sits on a 35.5-acre campus on South Rainbow Boulevard in Las Vegas. It has 170 beds and provides services including surgery, radiology, laboratory, emergency, outpatient procedures and ambulatory surgery. The hospital is a member of the Valley Health System.
The hospital’s Care Center for Women includes the Maternity Center and offers advanced obstetrical and gynecological services, from prenatal care to menopause, provided by an experienced team of healthcare professionals. The Care Centers’ 26 patient suites provide optimal privacy.
St. Rose Dominican Hospitals
St. Rose Dominican Hospitals are Southern Nevada’s only not-for-profit, non-tax supported and religiously sponsored hospitals. St. Rose currently has two hospitals serving Southern Nevada – the Rose de Lima and Siena campuses. Combined, the two hospitals feature a medical staff of nearly 2,000. The San Martin Campus, St. Rose’s third full-service, acute-care hospital opened earlier this year.
The 30-acre campus is located in southwest Las Vegas on West Warm Springs Road between Durango and Cimarron near I-215. Initially, the San Martin Campus will consist of the hospital and an accompanying four-story medical office building that will include physician offices representing a variety of medical disciplines and an outpatient pharmacy. The hospital will be four-stories with 110 private rooms. The National Research Corp. named St. Rose Dominican Hospitals as the co-winners of the 2003 Consumer Choice #1, Las Vegas’ Most Preferred Hospital in Overall Quality and Image. In 2003, St. Rose received the Silver State Award at the Nevada Governor’s Awards for Performance Excellence APEX. This is the first year the award has been bestowed upon any organization and is the highest honor given at the APEX awards.
St. Rose Dominican Hospitals
Located at E. Lake Mead Drive and Boulder Highway in Henderson, St. Rose Dominican Hospitals’ Rose de Lima Campus offers a full continuum of inpatient and outpatient care, urgent care and health education. This 220,000-square-foot facility has grown with the community for nearly six decades and currently has 138 acute care beds. The religiously affiliated facility, which has been in existence since 1947, specializes in cardiac catheterization and rehabilitation, ICU/CCU, ambulatory surgery, intermediate and transitional care units, physical and occupational therapy and magnetic resonance imaging.
St. Rose balances its state-of-the-art technology with a holistic approach to healing. The hospital offers a full range of community classes on health and wellness topics. The hospitals also received two special recognition awards: the Nevada Award for Quality Leadership and the Nevada Award for Community Support.
St. Rose Dominican Hospitals
The Siena Campus of St. Rose of Dominican Hospitals opened in July 2000 with a 328,078-square- foot hospital. Located at St. Rose Parkway and Eastern Avenue in Henderson, the hospital provides a comprehensive range of hospital services in an attractive, patient-friendly setting. Essential patient offerings include a 29-bed emergency department, the Maternal Child Center, a full spectrum of cardiac services including open heart surgeries, a medical surgical unit with 34 beds, and eight multiservice operating rooms.
A range of rehabilitation services are also offered. The fourth floor of the Siena Campus Hospital was recently finished and opened, increasing the hospital’s capacity by 66 private rooms. One of the wings includes the first pediatric intensive care unit for the southern part of the valley.
In 2004, the Siena Campus became home to the southern part of the valley’s first intracranial program.
Summerlin Hospital Medical Center
Summerlin Hospital Medical Center opened in October 1997 and is located in one of Southern Nevada’s fastest growing communities, the master planned community of Summerlin. The hospital has approximately 1,200 physicians on staff representing more than 65 areas of medicine. With 199 beds and nine surgical suites, Summerlin Hospital is Southern Nevada’s first full-service hospital to offer private patient rooms at no additional charge. Summerlin’s unique design and state-of-the-art technologies place an emphasis on patient privacy and convenience in the delivery of quality healthcare. The center features 24-hour emergency care and a wide variety of services to meet the needs of its community.
Summerlin recently added a Level II Nursery/Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) as part of its comprehensive maternity services. This unit is one of only four in Las Vegas. The hospital also offers special services in the area of pediatrics, women’s care, cancer treatment, physical therapy and wound care. The acute care hospital is part of a 40-acre medical campus that includes a medical office complex with more than 50 physician practices and an outpatient diagnostic and surgical center. Summerlin Hospital is also a member of the Valley Health System, which has provided three decades of healthcare service to the Las Vegas community.
Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center
Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center is a 701-bed, world-class medical center. The hospital is staffed by more than 3,000 healthcare professionals and 1,300 physicians representing dozens of medical specialties and sub-specialties. For eight consecutive years, Sunrise was awarded the Consumer Choice Award by the National Research Corp.
Sunrise is also a nationally accredited Comprehensive Cancer Center actively conducting cancer research. The hospital’s range of services includes cardiology, pediatrics, women’s services, oncology, neurosurgery, 24-hour emergency care for adults and children and medical and surgical services. Other specialties are available through the Renal Transplant Center, Epilepsy Clinic, Diabetic Clinic, Wound Care Center and a Gamma Knife Center for non-invasive brain surgery.
Additional services include the region’s only hospital-based PET-CT, open MRI, diVinci Surgical Robot, childbirth education, senior friends and community health education.
Sunrise Children’s Hospital
Sunrise Children’s Hospital is Nevada’s only hospital dedicated exclusively to the well-being of children. It has been recognized as one of the top children’s hospitals in the country. The 144-bed facility serves as a statewide referral center for infants and children with routine and complex medical problems. Sunrise Children’s Hospital’s partnership with the University of Nevada School of Medicine and schools of nursing create an educational environment that encourages and promotes compassionate, family-centered patient care.
The children’s hospital’s range of services include 24-hour pediatric emergency care, general pediatrics, intensive care, oncology, cardiology, oncology, cardiology, neonatal intensive care II and III, maternal infant and postpartum care, child and family services and outreach services.
University Medical Center UMC
University Medical Center of Southern Nevada (UMC) offers the quality of care you expect to find in a metropolitan area as large as Las Vegas. With 11 Centers of Excellence, including the only American College of Surgeons verified level I trauma center and the only burn care center in Nevada, UMC provides a complete range of services to meet all residents’ healthcare needs. UMC is also the first Nevada hospital to develop an organ transplant program. Choosing a primary care physician can be a daunting task when moving to a new location. UMC primary care centers allow visitors to pick a family doctor to help manage their family’s healthcare.
The primary care physician provides routine care and will refer patients to appropriate specialists when necessary. The UMC primary care physician is also supported by the full range of capabilities that UMC provides, making it easier to choose the best treatment options available. There are 11 UMC primary care centers located throughout Southern Nevada, located adjacent to UMC quick care centers. UMC quick care centers serve urgent medical needs such as cuts, colds or the flu. UMC has been in Las Vegas since 1931. They have grown along with the city and continue to grow to meet the community’s medical needs. UMC boasts a level III neonatal intensive care unit, the highest level available, and offers a full range of pediatric services in its children’s center. Child life specialists are available to assist pediatric patients and their families cope with the stress of being hospitalized.
VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System Department of Veterans Affairs
VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System provides a broad spectrum of ambulatory and inpatient services for U.S. veterans. The system is affiliated with the University of Nevada School of Medicine. Other academic affiliations include the Southern California College of Optometry, University of Nevada at Las Vegas School of Nursing, Undergraduate Healthcare Administration Program, Graduate School of Social Work and the Clark County School of Dental Hygiene.
VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System provides a broad spectrum of ambulatory and inpatient services as part of VA Desert Pacific Healthcare Network. Primary care clinics are located in Henderson and Pahrump and an outreach center for homeless veterans is located in Las Vegas. There is also a free-standing psychiatric day treatment center, Arville House, in Las Vegas. VA inpatient care is provided at Mike O’Callaghan Federal Hospital at Nellis Air Force Base.
Valley Hospital Medical Center
Valley Hospital has served Southern Nevada residents and visitors since 1972. As a full-service facility conveniently located in central Las Vegas and accessible from both I-15 and U.S.-95, Valley Hospital offers some of the most advanced cardiac services in Las Vegas. Such services include open-heart surgery, balloon angioplasty, cardiac catheterizations, peripheral vascular studies and electrophysiology studies. The hospital also specializes in normal and high-risk pregnancies, providing a full range of comprehensive maternity services. Other Valley Hospital services include emergency care, surgical services, endoscopies, home health services, an inpatient acute rehabilitation department and the Geriatric Center for Behavioral Medicine.
