One of the most tragic byproducts of foreclosures is the toll they are taking on family pets and especially dogs. As people lose their homes, which is painful enough, they are forced in most cases to put their animals in shelters. It’s putting a terrible strain on animal shelters all across the US, as they are having a difficult time dealing with the tremendous influx in animals that need to be sheltered and fed!
Dogs are of course bearing the brunt of the foreclosure process – there are literally tens of thousands of dogs (and cats and miscellaneous critters) that have been put up for adoption in shelters.
One determined young lady with a heart as big as Oregon decided to do something about it. Her name is Mimi Ausland, she lives in Bend, Oregon (Eastern side of the Cascades) and in April she asked her parents for help in creating a web site that would be focused on making people aware of the heartbreaking losses many families with animals going through a foreclosure have to deal with! Her story was broadcast last week via NBC’s nightly news and here is the short Video:
