Las Vegas City Center Starts Hiring 12,000

From time to time we try to share perspective on the overall economy here in Las Vegas. There has been a lot of speculation formonths about the City Center Opening, with some thinking its opening would be stalled by economic headwinds.

Well the good news is the fabulous City Center is opening on schedule in early December of 2009 and job offers are going out to qualified people that have applied for the 12,000 openings. Here is the link if you are in fact interested in applying for a Job with the City Center.

City Center Complex Overview

The $8.5 Billion complex located in the heart of the Las Vegas Strip, sitting on 67 prime acres of Las Vegas Real Estate. The MGM Grand is the primary owner developer of this massive project, with projected costs of $11 Billion dollars when all structures are completed.

With its focus on word class art. City Center Complex will be the host to some of the world’s most renowned and well known sculpture artists, including Maya Ling, Richard Long, Frank Stell, Nancy Rubins, Coosje Van Bruggen Claes Oldenber and Jenny Holzer – with an estimated and projected value of $40M in art work on display when the City Center opens.

When it is completed and opened it will feature the ARIA Resort and Casino, Mandarin Oriental Hotel/Residence, The Harmon Hotel/Residence, Vdara Condo/Hotel Tower, Veer Luxury Condos, Crystal Mall featuring 500K square feet, approximately 225K square feet of Convention Space, theater that will hold an estimated 2,000 people and a Spa with 70,000 square feet.

The multi-use project is being designed with green technologies when/where feasible, to make it one of the world’s largest environmentally sustainable urban communities. Plans presently include the use of reclaimed water as well as an on site power plant and fire station. The MGM Mirage will also pursue LEED Certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), which makes it truly a one of kind “green focused” development.

Early reports from the MGM Mirage indicate the MGM is going to offer a brand new Cirqu du Soleil show that may be called Elvis – that would be premiered at the resort on opening day. Here is an artist’s rendering of the beautiful City Center.
