The wonderful Mayor of Las Vegas, Oscar B. Goodman recently spoke at the Las Vegas Real Estate Insiders Club about the “state” of Las Vegas Real Estate and related topics.
Our Great Mayor’s Background
First some background on our Mayor. He’s been living here since 1962, has raised and educated four children with his lovely wife Carolyn and is probably the best advocate Las Vegas has ever had for our city, lifestyle and brand!
Mayor Goodman, now in his third four year term, has advocated and lobbied for the redevelopment of the downtown area of Las Vegas – actually in Clark County but most people are not aware of this.
He has focused his efforts on creating a downtown urban village that is filled with numerous small businesses, one of a kind boutiques, great restaurants, bookstores and an art component, enabling the citizens of Las Vegas to have social dialogue and exchange ideas
Mayor Goodman’s Prediction
The most important takeaway from Mayor Goodman’s presentation was what he said at the end. It’s important to point out two things; first, you would expect the mayor of any major city to be a booster of his/her city; second, there has been a tremendous amount of pessimism in the news about Las Vegas Real Estate as of late.
The Mayor referenced a time when it was so hard to get people to listen to his redevelopment plans that he had to beg them. Now, he said, he has people calling to pitch him ideas just about every single day.
He gave one piece of advice about Las Vegas Real Estate to the SRO (standing room only) audience, “buy any real estate you can get your hands on around downtown Las Vegas, it’ll never be this cheap again.”
